Summary

From Ross Mathews, the nationally bestselling author of Man Up!, judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and alum of Chelsea Lately, comes “a delightful mix of sweet and sour celebrity experiences” (Shelf Awareness) in this hilarious and irreverent collection of essays。

Pretend it’s happy hour and you and I are sitting at the bar。 I look amazing and, I agree with you, much thinner in person。 You look good, too。 Maybe it’s the candlelight, maybe it’s the booze。 Either way, let’s just go with it。 Keep this all between you and me, and do me a favor? Don’t judge me if I name drop just a little。

Television personality Ross Mathews likes telling stories。 He was always outrageous and hilariously honest, even when the biggest celebrity he knew was his favorite lunch lady in the school cafeteria。 Now that he has Hollywood experience—from interning behind the scenes at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to judging RuPaul’s Drag Race—he has a lot to talk about。

In Name Drop, Ross dishes about being an unlikely insider in the alternate reality that is showbiz, like that time he was invited by Barbara Walters to host The View—only to learn his hero did not suffer fools; his Christmas with the Kardashians, which should be its own holiday special; and his news-making talk with Omarosa on Celebrity Big Brother, which, as it turns out, was just the tip of the iceberg。 Holding nothing back, Ross shares the most treasured and surprising moments in his celebrity-filled career, and proves that while exposure may have made him a little bit famous, he is still as much a fanboy as ever。

Filled with “charmingly told” (Booklist) tales ranging from the horrifying to the hilarious—and with just the right “Rossipes” and cocktails to go along with them—Name Drop is every pop culture lover’s dream come true。

Ross Mathews is hilarious, genuine, and awesome。 That last word should be read in a sing-songy way that only Ross could pull off well enough。 I listened to this as an audiobook and he did that a lot。 And it was awesome。 This book is filled with stories of celebrity encounters, and they're written with entertaining wit。 The last chapter is an imaginary perfect dinner party that sounds fabulous!Ross seems like he'd be a lot of fun to hang around, and not just because he'd probably have a ton of ce Ross Mathews is hilarious, genuine, and awesome。 That last word should be read in a sing-songy way that only Ross could pull off well enough。 I listened to this as an audiobook and he did that a lot。 And it was awesome。 This book is filled with stories of celebrity encounters, and they're written with entertaining wit。 The last chapter is an imaginary perfect dinner party that sounds fabulous!Ross seems like he'd be a lot of fun to hang around, and not just because he'd probably have a ton of celebs near him。 He seems to be a magnet for them! 。。。more

I gave this book 5 stars not because it was a great life-altering work of literature。 I did so because it gave me exactly what I hoped it would when I started reading it, a fun and nostalgic romp of hilarity。 Ross also delivers an endearing dose of vulnerability as he shares some of his less than ideal moments。 I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Not sure how this book got on my to-read list since I don't even know who Ross Mathews is。 There really isn't much to his stories but you have to give the guy points for enthusiasm。 Not sure how this book got on my to-read list since I don't even know who Ross Mathews is。 There really isn't much to his stories but you have to give the guy points for enthusiasm。 。。。more

I love biographies/autobiographical especially and books full of gossip lol。 Ross is a hoot to begin with and with name drop was right up my alley。 I know he’s had more encounters and would love to have read about more celebrities。。。 maybe that’s the follow up 🤞😉

This book was fun to read and really not at all mean spirited。 I found myself liking this guy, and wishing I was one of the people he hung out with。 I recognized many of the celebrities he talked about but virtually none of the reality TV people who make up his working world。 It seems a strange way to get famous to me, but good for him/them。

A funny, silly book。 I’ve always enjoyed Ross’ comedy, it is clever and never nasty nor mean spirited。 I think this would be great as an audiobook, as fans of Ross know, he certainly knows how to deliver a joke。

I listened to the audiobook read by Ross himself, and I enjoyed it way more than if I just read it。 He is so funny and full of life and crazy once-in-a-lifetime experiences。 His stories were like a spy's insight into the Hollywood life and when it ended I felt like I had to say goodbye to a friend。 Truly enjoyable and laughable。 I listened to the audiobook read by Ross himself, and I enjoyed it way more than if I just read it。 He is so funny and full of life and crazy once-in-a-lifetime experiences。 His stories were like a spy's insight into the Hollywood life and when it ended I felt like I had to say goodbye to a friend。 Truly enjoyable and laughable。 。。。more

A fun frothy read。 Ross has a sassy writing style, and makes you feel like he is sharing stories over a glass of wine at happy hour with you。 He does not dish mean or cruel stories , but makes you laugh and feel in the know。 He dishes about everyone from Jackie Collins to Brandi Glanville to Liza with a Z。 There are also some not bad recipes thrown in for good measure。 This was a perfect book to read sandwiched between two heavier books。

I’m old and actually remember when Ross Mathews was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno。 I’m also a sucker for celeb gossip。 So when I spied Name Drop at the library, I scooped it up。 Name Drop is a collection of stories about Mathews’ run ins with celebrities。 What I liked: the book is fun and easy to read。 I read chapters in between other books。 I didn’t try any of the recipes but they sounded delicious。 Most surprising gossip: his interaction with some of the Spice Girls。 Victoria and Mel B see I’m old and actually remember when Ross Mathews was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno。 I’m also a sucker for celeb gossip。 So when I spied Name Drop at the library, I scooped it up。 Name Drop is a collection of stories about Mathews’ run ins with celebrities。 What I liked: the book is fun and easy to read。 I read chapters in between other books。 I didn’t try any of the recipes but they sounded delicious。 Most surprising gossip: his interaction with some of the Spice Girls。 Victoria and Mel B seemed really nice。 What didn’t work for me: it’s very surface level and if you’re expecting any horrible dirt - the most you get is Mathew Perry was a jerk to him and never apologized。 Who should read it: Pop-culture and celebrity gossip fans will like the behind the scenes look at Hollywood。 。。。more

Listened to the audiobook。 Between the celebrity stories and Ross’s hilarious narration, this was so fun and just the lighthearted read that I wanted。 I also loved the “Rossipes”! I really didn’t know who Ross was before reading this book, but now count myself as a fan。

More than just a gossipy celebrity memoir。 If you don't already love the author, by the end of this book you absolutely will。 Told with humor and heart, Name Drop is the perfect quarantine read。 More than just a gossipy celebrity memoir。 If you don't already love the author, by the end of this book you absolutely will。 Told with humor and heart, Name Drop is the perfect quarantine read。 。。。more

I really enjoy every single RuPaul episode when Ross Mathews is there。 I think that he is hilarious! I really enjoyed hearing his stories about his great access life。 I am glad I listened to this while I was cleaning the house rather than out and about because I was crying laughing in so many parts。 I do wish that there was more on the RuPaul experience in here, but when I think about it the timing might be off。 Maybe there's more to come down the line。 I'd read that one too Ross, just sayin'。 A I really enjoy every single RuPaul episode when Ross Mathews is there。 I think that he is hilarious! I love Ross Mathews。 He is such a ball of sunshine! Every time he talks, it literally feels like I'm just hanging out with my best girl friends, and this book is exactly like that。 I borrowed the audiobook from my local library, and I listened to it in less than a day's worth of work as I churned out some shit for the day。 He's perfectly concocted a book filled with absolutely endearing and hilarious stories and gossip (not to mention recipes you can dare try for yourself) that he's earned durin I love Ross Mathews。 He is such a ball of sunshine! You are such a God-sent angel。 I can't wait for your next book。Will I recommend? YES。Will I re-read? Maybe not。Would I love to meet Ross myself? Uh, YES。 DUH。 。。。more

Such a cute book。 It really made me smile reading it。 And I looked up every video Ross mentions in the book and even saved some of the Rossipes。

I'm not exactly one for celebrity gossip, but after seeing Ross Mathews on this year's (spectacular scrap-heap of a commercial-free) Macy's parade, I knew I had to "get to know" this guy better。 He's adorable, full of fun stories, and knows how to give a good cocktail recipe。 While I'm not burning to know any more celebrity close-up stories, Mathews's voice is fresh and enjoyable。 I'm not exactly one for celebrity gossip, but after seeing Ross Mathews on this year's (spectacular scrap-heap of a commercial-free) Macy's parade, I knew I had to "get to know" this guy better。 He's adorable, full of fun stories, and knows how to give a good cocktail recipe。 While I'm not burning to know any more celebrity close-up stories, Mathews's voice is fresh and enjoyable。 。。。more

Juicy and bubbly fun, I could almost hear Ross giggling in my head while I read, like we were smooshed together on a purple banquette in some trendy bar sipping Cosmos。 A deliciously light vacation read!

This book was a breeze to read。 I absolutely adore Ross Matthews。。。 fun fact, his was the last comedy show I saw before everything shut down this year because of Covid-19。 At the show, he had already told a couple of these stories, but re-reading them again I could hear his voice and see his expressions as I read。Ross Matthews just seems like a really genuine nice guy。 Despite this being a book of gossip, the stories are (mostly) fun and flattering to the celebrities he mentions。 If you like cel This book was a breeze to read。 I absolutely adore Ross Matthews。。。 fun fact, his was the last comedy show I saw before everything shut down this year because of Covid-19。 At the show, he had already told a couple of these stories, but re-reading them again I could hear his voice and see his expressions as I read。Ross Matthews just seems like a really genuine nice guy。 Despite this being a book of gossip, the stories are (mostly) fun and flattering to the celebrities he mentions。 If you like celebrity culture and want to read Ross' gossip, then this is the book for you。 。。。more

There were a few funny bits, but overall it was more annoying and over the top than anything。 He also swears a lot。 I basically only finished this so I could get to 100 books this year。 🤷🏽‍♂️

Kind of silly。。。 clearly doesnt drop any good secrets other than one of the housewives appears to be an anorexic alcoholic, although Im guessing if you watch that show you probably know that。 Oh and Barbara Walters is a B。

Say “what up” to my fellow Washingtonian 👋🏼 Ross’s stories are hilarious and sometimes cringeworthy (in the most entertaining of ways) and he kept me coming back for more。 It really felt like I was sitting down with a friend to hear about their crazy stories。 I have to admit, I wish I had done the audiobook version—I have no doubt that it would have been even more funny with him reading to me。 Recommended for any fans of Ross and/ or celebrity gossip 🤪

Oh Ross Mathews。。。。with one t。 I just loved this book。 This is the kind of celebrity tell all that I enjoy。 It isn't done in a gossipy trashy mean way but just his stories of interviewing and running into celebrities。 Ross also includes a cocktail recipe and a food dish recipe (Rossipes) with each celebrity。 Very cute! I wish I had the audiobook to hear him tell his own stories。 I would have loved that。 Fun book, recommend。 Oh Ross Mathews。。。。with one t。 I just loved this book。 This is the kind of celebrity tell all that I enjoy。 It isn't done in a gossipy trashy mean way but just his stories of interviewing and running into celebrities。 Ross also includes a cocktail recipe and a food dish recipe (Rossipes) with each celebrity。 Very cute!
